Celebrating the renovation of a great place to call home

Mercy Housing Northwest celebrated the Grand Re-Opening of Evergreen Vista Apartments with our development partners and other distinguished guests. Olympia Mayor Stephen Buxbaum welcomed the guests noting how critical affordable housing communities like Evergreen Vista are for the residents of Olympia.

Originally developed in 1993 Evergreen Vista I was MHNW’s first project in Washington State and has provided affordable service-enriched rental homes for Olympia residents for over 18 years. Dan McConnon, the Assistant Director for Community Services & Housing at the Department of Commerce commended Mercy Housing Northwest for its long-term commitment to community building.

After 17 years of housing large families with many children, MHNW recognized that many aspects of the housing and site including the kitchens, bathroom, ventilation, roofing, siding, irrigation system and playground were worn and required replacement. To ensure the long term sustainability of the project and improve the living environment for residents, MHNW embarked on a comprehensive renovation in 2011. Improvements included enhanced energy conservation and efficiency such as “Green Label” carpet and flooring and energy saving compact fluorescent light fixtures.

MHNW also said “thank you” to the many volunteers and supporters of the Resident Services programs that have been in place since the original opening.
