Mercy Housing Northwest continues its work of addressing the housing affordability crisis with Millworks Family Housing, in Bellingham, WA. Featuring 83 apartment homes, 10% of which will be reserved for families exiting homelessness, this new community will expand Mercy Housing Northwest’s footprint in Bellingham

Working with the Department of Ecology and Port of Bellingham, Millworks Family Housing will be conveniently located near downtown Bellingham and will sit on the waterfront thanks to  land provided by the port. It is part of the city’s plan focusing on revitalizing the waterfront. The Department of Ecology is overseeing the full removal of all contaminated soil which is scheduled to take place this summer.

This new community will feature an early childhood education center sponsored by community partner the YMCA of Whatcom County. Mercy Housing will provide onsite resident services for all residents.

Working with the Whatcom Community Foundation, Mercy Housing Northwest is also raising additional capital funding – $250,000 was recently awarded to this development from the Norcliffe Foundation

In April 2022, Mercy Housing Northwest was awarded a tax credit from the Washington State Department of Commerce. Financing will close on the project by the end of 2022 with construction set to begin in January 2023 and completion tentatively scheduled for April 2024.

Millworks Family Housing will join Eleanor Apartments, Sterling Meadows, and the nearly completed Barkley Village apartments, ensuring families, seniors, and people exiting homelessness have access to stable, affordable housing.
