When Robin’s marriage ended, she suddenly found herself raising her young son alone after pausing her career to raise him. She had to sleep on the couch so her son could have the bed in their tiny apartment.  She was trying to switch careers and doing everything she could to keep her family afloat — but rising rents made it nearly impossible. 

But then she found Mercy Housing and moved into Parkside Apartments.

As she rebuilt her life — navigating career changes, financial strain, and the challenge of starting over — Mercy Housing gave her the foundation she needed. “Living at Mercy Housing gave me the chance to live with stability,” she shared. “Me and my son were able to stay in one place. We didn’t have to move.” 

That stability allowed Robin to save money, return to work, and eventually move into a larger apartment. She chose to leave Parkside so another family in crisis could have the same opportunity she’d been given. 

Today, Robin still lives in Denver and works with students with disabilities at Metropolitan State University of Denver — many of whom are aging out of foster care or facing homelessness themselves. “All of the experiences I’ve had help me connect with them,” she said.
