Oct 13Building a fulfilling life with Mercy Housing: One resident is paying it forward
He once found his way out of hopelessness through Mercy Housing — now he is helping others do the same.
James Taylor, a resident at Mercy Housing Lakefront’s Carlton Apartments, was so thankful for the life-changing services he was provided that he sought employment with Mercy Housing Lakefront as a Community Health Worker, a story you may already know.
We are excited to share a new chapter to this tale. In July 2026, James was hired as the new Healthcare Coordinator Specialist, a full-time position serving formerly homeless adults at Margot and Harold Schiff Residences. By taking on the added responsibilities, he is able to deepen his impact.
We are so proud of how far James has come, and we are so pleased that he is part of the Mercy Housing family.
“From being homeless, I learned you got to be ready to meet people where they are…don’t be afraid to share a cup of coffee with someone. I know what it’s like to not have people show up for you in your life, so I try do that for people.”
— James Taylor, Healthcare Coordinator Specialist at Mercy Housing Lakefront
