James Alexander

James Alexander serves as Mercy Housing Southeast’s President. In this role, he is responsible for leading Mercy Housing’s operations in the Southeast region, including the oversight of affordable housing development, fundraising and resident services. He joined the organization in 2017, and brings to his role over 13 years of experience in various leadership and project management capacities in affordable housing, community development, and real estate.

Before coming to Mercy Housing, Alexander was the Housing Policy and Development Director for the Atlanta Beltline, Inc. The Atlanta Beltline seeks to connect communities and create a framework for growth by delivering an ambitious program of transit, greenspace, trails and affordable workforce housing. At the Atlanta Beltline, he worked closely on affordable housing projects including our very own, Reynoldstown Senior Residences, which recently won the prestigious Charles L. Edson Tax Credit Excellence Award for Outstanding Senior Housing Development.

Alexander received his bachelor's degree in Urban Studies from Columbia University, and his master's degree in City Planning from Massachusetts Institute of Technology.

In his free time, he loves spending time with his wife, Charlotte, and his two daughters, Abbie Dora and Rose.  He enjoys soccer and traveling. When he is not forced to listen to the Moana soundtrack by his girls, he enjoys southern hip-hop and 90's R&B.
