Sing, Sing a Song … Music Monday at Colony Park

Last Monday, the sounds of music and song (and, even a few fancy dance steps, too) filled the air in Carol Stream where approximately 300 senior residents call Colony Park home.

Residents participated from their balconies to join in song with Colony Park’s staff. Music can trigger memories and reduce anxiety. During these unprecedented days of shelter in place, the Colony Park team introduced a creative approach to engage residents while respecting social distancing.

Music has been proven to promote better health, and during shelter-in-place, finding creative ways to support seniors is important.

Residents sang along to YMCA, Don’t Worry Be Happy, Sweet Caroline, I Feel Good, Dancing Queen; as well as some patriotic tunes such as, This Land is Your Land, and America the Beautiful. And then, residents showed off their dance moves to The Chicken Dance and the Hokey Pokey. Each song grew smiles wider and wider for participants and even on-lookers.

Music Mondays will continue through April to engage residents as a way to reduce anxiety and social isolation, while also uplifting spirits with smiles and laughter.  Check out the pictures, they’ll bring a smile to your face too.
